Normally I'm not into the "I own you" sort of romance dynamic, but the way this was written, I didn't really mind. And when it came to sex, Gunner never took things too far, never wanted 3.5 Stars Plus, Cooper liked when Gunner was being domineering, and Gunner could tell, so I think he just kinda played into that because it suited him too. Gunner was kind of a jerk and kind of menacing, but it really wasn't taken to any extreme, and then the "owning" part just kinda faded away completely. I'm just glad that the next book is ready for me.moreģ.5 Stars Review: Normally I'm not into the "I own you" sort of romance dynamic, but the way this was written, I didn't really mind. There is a HFN for the couple, but the cliffhanger ending with another side character is brutal. I also feel more invested in Cooper and Gunner relationship towards the second half. This is the part that I enjoy most, seeing everyone working together like one big family. There are a few surprises along the way that keep me engrossed. I thought it was hot and it was the moment that make Cooper feels more sexually attracted to Gunner.Īs the story move on with the appearance of another magical creature that wreck havoc in town, Gunner and his team were up in arms trying to keep the town safe. The threesome scene caught me off guard because I was totally not expecting it, but it happened early in the book that it doesn't really bother me. Their communication includes exchange of a few terse words and Cooper getting agitated about Gunner. He didn't really explain the reason he brought Cooper to Stallion Ridge. Gunner is a man of few words and tends to keep to himself.

Cooper is quite a mess, busy with his young daughter and stress about his debt with the Spades.

It took a bit longer for me to warm up to Gunner and Cooper's pairing. Their communication includes exchange of a few terse words a I'm glad to be back at Stallion Ridge, honestly I'm in love with most of the side characters and wish each of them will get their own story. When the band sings “It’s time to check out/We’re being left out” it sounds like a mantra for our time, while the album closes with Jenny singing “Dance with me/Bones, blood, And teeth/Dance with me/Into the Void” over a reverb drenched guitar line provided by the band’s other core member, George Rager, that sounds like it was lifted out of some post-apocalyptic western. “Claw Marks” is an upbeat but beaten down soundtrack to the dystopian nightmare we find ourselves living in. So much so that lead singer Jenny Angelillo says that there are several songs on the album that could easily be her epitaph. The record finds the band at the top of their game in terms of songwriting, musicianship, and lyricism. That said, “Claw Marks” might just be the first Neighborhood Brats records that truly captures and urgency and energy of the band’s chaotic live show. The band plays a brand of punk that, had they existed in 1977, would have been right at home on Dangerhouse Records alongside The Bags and The Avengers.
